What is bare?
bare Philippines is a nonprofit NGO that works to spread awareness of soil-transmitted helminthiasis and empower children who are most affected by this disease through protection, education, and provision of health and hygiene essentials.
While volunteering in her barangay's Nutrition Action Office, our founder was exposed to soil-transmitted helminthiasis, a disease she had never heard of in wellness, biology, or any class at school. After a deeper dive into this disease, she discovered how prevalent and pressing of a problem STH was in the Philippines, with some communities having infection rates as high as 97%.
What started with a single barangay expanded over a whole city and spread across the entire country. bare partners with communities all around the Philippines to organize MDAs (mass drug administrations) of albendazole deworming tablets, host educational hygiene and sanitation workshops, and provide everyone with the bare essentials.
Since we began our mission in 2022, bare has reached close to 1,000 individuals through our deworming and educational sessions. By the end of this year, our goal is to double that number and bring worms into the conversion by advocating for society to overcome the stigma that surrounds them and their devastating effects on the country.
